Hi....
I am a Husband  Angel has had her Trach for over 2 Years now..What a Wonderful Boxing Day Gift....She HATED IT!!....All she said for the Longest Time was OFF OFF OFF!!...Meaning get this thing out of me..It brough me to Tears.... It took her forver to get use to it..I still dont think she is...  ....I think she would still be telling that to me if she was able to.....Angel is on a Vent around the Clock..I think I can do her Care with my Eyes Closed now..Let me go and Try it....*I better not Michelle may hunt me down*..... I think the Biggest issue is finding good Nursing...We have 2 Wonderful Nurses now...I would not trade them for anything....You do have to watch them for sometime...I did at any rate.They say they know Trach Care.But most really do NOT..... Post any Questions you have and Michelle will get back to you  ....I am not on often....Good Luck....I hope your Suction Machine is not Built into your hand and it gets Turned off as ours never does..... B and

Hi -- I have a 19 yr old daughter with CP -- she has had her trach most of her life. She accesses a comp with a simple press switch -- know what you mean about excitement/stiffening, she used to be like that but gradually got better with familiarity. She still "over presses"
The best thing you have done is find this site lol -- it is a wonderful source -- but like someone said, keep an eye on the pediatric threads as a lot of what comes up on there can be applicable to adults too.

Sorry to hear about the aspiration -- we have never had much of a problem with aspiration - happens very rarely and she coughs it straight up and has never had any ill effects. i know that a lot of the children on this site have had this problem and I have read a great many posts over the years on the topic -- so try the pediatric board, i am quite sure you will get some advice
