Securing pulse-ox
I really like the Ohmeda probes- much better than the Nellcor because they seem to last forever. However, they will only stick once. I was using tape, but it leaves the sticky stuff all over her foot. I bought some sport wrap at target, but it was $7 for a roll and it doesn't last very long. I am thinking about buying coflex on ebay as it will be a better price. What do you use? Do you get it from your DME?

do you get the pink teddy replacement tapes from your dme? does your probe come with the blue one attached and an extra pink in the pack?? that is how ours comes... and then I order an extra 60 pink teddy tapes each month(come on roll kinda like bandaids).....after the first use; I cut the blue so it is still on the probe part even with the end of the probe~and then keep reusing it by putting the pink (I use 2cause foot is so fat) over top of the blue piece... it pulls off easy and doesnt ruin the probe.. I reuse for 2-3 weeks before getting new probe unless wires go bad from him pulling alot.

I use the sport wrap and then a snug fitting sock over that. It's not perfect but it works for us *most* nights. I don't know what coflex is. I think I might look it up. My dme used to supply posey wraps ( I think that is what they were called). It was similar to what the NICU used but I really didn't like them - and they smelled terrible after a few uses.

We have a different pulse ox, but we've had a heck of a time getting posey wraps. We've alternated between coban tape (a friend recommends "vet wrap" because it's the same thing but cheaper, and comes in lots of colors) and regular medical tape. We use socks a lot too, to help minimize issues.

I am ordering some vet wrap from ebay. I liked to poseys, but she pulls them off. I did the sick thing for a while, but her feet get too sweaty which causes false alarms.

We use a combo of the posey wraps and teddy bear strips. We use the teddy bear strips to help get them to "stick" better, and the posey wraps to reinforce it. Mackenzie does pull the whole thing off, so it's not "child proof" so to speak. I wait until she's in bed and half asleep before I put the pulse ox on, whereas Andy puts everything on BEFORE putting her to bed. Either way she's usually more distracted with tugging her vent circuit off than disturbing the pulse ox. (Btw, we also put a sock on over the entire get up.)

co-flex - same as the sports wrap, but less than $1 a roll. We used to get a more generic from the DME, instead I just buy it every 6 months or so. Here's a link to where I buy it: co-flex

teddy bear wraps
we can't use re-usable probes- they leave blisters on his toes so we use the blue until the sticky is gone then cut off and use the purple teddy bear wraps.

Celia has never done too well with tape so we have always used the "permantent" probes with a velcro wrap,,kinda the same material as trachties.
