Iliff - Cedric and screening for preschool
Well the first few days were a little rough for Cedric - he just was not sure about his new surroundings and to complicate the issue a little his bed was wet very often so the poor little guy was trying to move away from it. We still don't know why.... He was in a room with a bigger child who is mobile and comes and go out of the room. He is very sweet but we did not know if when he was mad he could do something to Cedric so the case manager yesterday before we even say anything moved him out of this room to another closer to the nursing station with a child who is unfortunately completely bed bound who can't interact... I truly feel so sad for him.
My daughter spoke to the therapists of the facility yesterday and the case manager and it turns out that Cedric might be eligible for the preschool that they have at the same facility we just have to allow them to do an initial pre-screening. We even did not know it was possible and to tell you the truth it is a big step having Cedric in preschool. I will keep you posted
He is well settled in is new room - all his favorite toys, mobile etc... are making it very cozy. We bought posters - one with all the heroes (Spiderman, Ironman etc...) and the other with funny puppys. He looks so cute in his new outfits - I already have taken laundry at home and now -I know it sounds silly - his clothes smell like home and like his brothers clothes
Anyway thanks for reading
Michelle

Wow, preschool would be wonderful - I hope it works out! And the clothes thing does not sound silly to me. I am very funny about the way all our clothes smell (or do not smell more importantly). We get hand-me downs from a friend who uses strong smelling fabric softener and I have to wash the clothes several times before they seem like they belong to us. Glad you are able to make Cedric's clothes smell like home now too!

Good to read that he is settling in, and his room is now more decorated to his tastes. It is wonderful that he is in his own clothing, and I do understand about the smell, I used to love to bring newly washed clothing for Joseph when he was in the nicu and even changed his bedding daily - it just made it seem so less institutionalized. HOpe he can get into the preschool, it would be so nice for him to be able to interact with other children.

I agree about the laundry too, I like Sam's clothes to have our family smell IYSWIM! So pleased to hear about the preschool - that will be great, I bet he'll love it

How exciting that he may be able to go to preschool. I'm so happy that he gets that chance. Good luck. I look forward to hearing how the screening goes. And do you have pics of him in his new room surrounded by his things?

No pictures yet but soon we still have to work on the room a little before it is picture ready..... prescreening for school postponed because Cedric caught an ear infection.....yes already..... but he is prone to them, he has at least 2 or 3 a year...Now he gets antibiotics for 10 days - then the preschool screening will be scheduled. You can't imagine how much time we already have spend with him since he is there - We just jump in the car in 10 minutes we are there not an 1 hour as usual on a good day to go and an hour back. We start to know the nurses and how strange is that one of the nurses that used to take care of him at HSC also works at Iliff part time - he requested Cedric - He told us that some of the therapists from HSC were planning a little field trip to come and see Cedric next week that is very sweet. Mohamed (the nurse0 told us that all the staff of HSC is asking about him and to give Cedric a big hug for them... I guess Cedric left an impact and that he is very loved.

geez sorry he has an ear infection! Nice that you can see him so much more! and that he has one of the same nurses- must make the transition a little easier for him too. Hope he can get screened for preschool real soon.
