View Full Version : Decannulation with bivona while on vent

We recently switched from Shiley to Bivonas and Lily seems more comfy with them. However, she keeps getting her trach out when she is on the vent (when sleeping). I feel like I've seen a different set up or a different adapter to help with this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There is a little flexything that you can put onit. I don't have anymore but they use them on shileys alot becuase they don't have the flex.
Adison also decanned a few times on the vent with her shily we justalways chek her ties before she went to sleep and told the nurse to keep an eye on her.
MAy be some on else will have the model number for you its clear with a acordian tub on the end.

We use Bivona, and have not had many problems with decannulation. And my son midlines and holds onto his trach, especially when he is sleeping.
We tend to have decan issues when his dale ties are just way too strechted out or his vent tubes are pulling it to the side too much.
Any of these a possible issue??

I don't have the model number, but I know it's called a swivel omniflex. Keturah's never decannulated while on the vent...yet...but the Bivonas are a lot more flexible than the Shileys. Great for comfort, not great for staying in when they're hooked up and moving around. Good luck! http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumb.gif

Thank you so much- the omniflex is what I was talking about. As she is getting older, she is just getting so strong and very able to get her trach out by yanking on her vent tubing. It helps to weight it down in the crib with a positioning aid (bean bag frog from the hospital). The last two times she decanned though, she didn't even cry and didn't desat immediately- I only knew because I could hear her voice better. Guess that is a great sign!

I am starting to clean out our extra room upstairs which has become the junk and "storage" room for extra and unused supplies!!! Will hopefully soon become Rynn's room! I'm pretty sure that I saw a bunch of omniflexes and swivel adapters in there that you can have!!! We used them for Maddy when she was on her vent, she uses bivonas as well!! Just pm me your info and I will send them as quick as I can!!!! That should help with the decanning, it worked for Maddy!!!
