Hi Sophia,
Get a good night's sleep beforehand! Â*Lily had 2 sleep studies a few weeks ago and it was miserable. Â*Hers was a relatively simple 4-channel study, so the "only" monitors she had were the pulse ox probe, 2 apnea monitor belts, 2 chest electrodes, a monitor taped to her chin to pick up snoring, and THE WORST, a probe taped to her upper lip between her nose and mouth. Â*She totally wigged out with all that and her trach capped on top of it all. Â*We spent 3 hours the second time around trying to get her to stop screaming; at one point we unplugged her from everything (much to the tech's disliking) and walked her around the floor of the hospital in her hospital bed to calm her down. Â*During the study, the techs watch breathing patterns, O2 sats, watch the child sleeping over vidoecamera, etc. and sometimes come in the room to check on things or adjust monitors. Â*Lily's only 10 months old; I would hope that an older child would be able to tolerate things a little better. Â*Of course if you have a 12-channel study you have a lot more electrodes/probes to put up with. Â*
Oh, also, be SURE to take everything with you that you need to take care of Kerrion during the night, including all trach supplies, suction, feeding supplies/pump/tubes, your cap if you have one, smaller size trach if you're downsizing, etc. Â*Ours was an "outpatient" procedure so they had none of the usual supplies you can usually bum off people in the hospital. Â*
I'm not trying to worry you, just be prepared for a long night with no sleep for you, and be prepared to be verrrrry patient with everything. Â*Hopefully things will go smoothly, piece of cake! Â*Good luck!
