For you adults on vents, what is the max tidal volume you prefer?

I have a friend with SMA who uses a vent by trach about 18 hours a day. I help him with his trach and vent sometimes.

He learned to titrate his own vent settings for comfort and likes BIG tidal volumes. I know the equation is something like 8 cubic centimenters per kilogram, which would give him a tidal volume of about 696. He likes about TWICE that and docs and RT's are always complaining that, "no one but you uses settings like that!"
He wears a shiley size 6 cuffed trach but usually ventilates with cuff down so he can speak so I know thats part of it But I wanna know: Whats your prefered tidal volume??EF
