Madisyn's Mom

Well, we went to the trach clinic today and had another scope done of Madisyn's vocal cords. We were told if her cords were still red and irritated that we may have to do the Nissen Fundo on her and put a feeding tube in. We have been on our new regimen of reflux meds for 3 months now.
Well, he did the scope, and much to our surprise, her cords were still slightly red and irritated, but there was no swelling. Even better news is that her right vocal cord is working completely on its own now! http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif He said we need to work with her to teach her that she can breathe through her nose and mouth. We do this by putting her speaking valve on. She only tolerates it for a few seconds now because she panics and feels like she can't breathe.
So, for now, no feeding tube and we are looking at possible decannulation if we can get her to start breathing through her nose and mouth.
