Jenn - My son, Michael, doesn't use O2 any more...but he is off the vent at night and requires BiPAP when sleeping to maintain his sats. If I remember, isn't your son on CPAP only? That's the same as Michael being on the BiPAP when he sleeps. Our problem with sats is that he breaths less than 20 bpm on his own and when he breaths, it's really shallow, so his sats dip. I can see why your son might need O2 at night if he's only on CPAP. Is that right? Sue

Jennifer,
At one time Gaithy seemed to need O2 only when asleep. She was a preemie with severe lung disease, but this started to happen when she was older (probably about 1-1.5 yrs old). She would require just 1/4 lpm or so at night, but when she would awake her pulse ox would jump up to 100% and she wouldn't need the O2 at that point.

Alli has chronic lung disease/BPD and hasnt required O2 since Feb 2002 after she had a bout of rsv and 2 surgeries. I wonder if they ever drop the dx as the kids get older? It's something I mean to ask the pulmonologist.
JJ's mom--how do you get "addicted" to O2? I mean, we all are, aren't we? Can't live without it. Just wondering, it's a concept I've never heard of before! Deb

A lot of babies can become addicted to O2, we've tried to wean JJ Â*from it several times. Â*He's only on a 1/2 litter, he Â*can go for days with out it and then will become very irritable, desat, sweating, and then he end ups back on it. His Pulmenologist, said that alot of premiees babies who have been on a high rate of O2 become addictied to it and it can take much longer to wean them. Â*my ENT says that Jeremiah can't have the LTR surgery on till he is completely off O2. so we keep tring.
