Malcolm came back home yesterday. We meant to come home the previous
night, but the PICU wanted us to spend a night with him. So I stayed
with Malcolm while Tim and Seamus stayed with a generous family we
have met through this board - the Warrens. Such kind and generous
people. They have a son Seamus's age to play with so it is much better
than hanging out in the hospital.

We got a giant liquid O2 tank instead of the concentrator, but we are
back on the compressor to create air flow. It is attached to a
heater/humidifier. The ideal is to have nebulized heated air getting
into his trach, but that's still not happening. The situation seems to
be better, but not perfect. There is good humidity, but not a ton of
heat. Apparently it's pretty hard to replicate the hospital setting.
So far so good. I really wanted them to look into the VapoTherm, but
everyone (pulmonologist, PICU, etc.) pretty much insists they are only
for use in intensive units (although the company markets them for home
use). Go figure.

I am wicked worn out. Trying to come up with activities for mis amigos
and one Chinese girl to do in our ESOL class. I barely made it today.

Glad to Malcolm is in the comforts of home. It truly is the best place for them to be. I hope you can get all the techincal stuff figured out to help the little guy feel better.

I'm glad Malcolm's back home...

But I am worried that you are home again only to have to bring him back to the hospital because if the wrong set-up at home. It really did make the difference between home and the hospital for Vivian. Had we not had the proper machines I am sure her lungs would not be as healthy as they are today.

If it will help, I will send you a list of each machine we used to get the proper humidification, you can use that to talk to the Rt's that worked with Malcolm in the hospital, your doctors and your DME.

I hope he gets to stay home this time. I hate to hear that babies have to go back into the hospital.
