Hi guys,

Well, a year ago today Ashley got her trach. I can't believe it's been that long already!! I'm feeling pretty low because I fould out after it was put in that Ash didn't really need it. The surgery was done at a hospital where they didn't understand Ashley's syndrome. I found out at the hospital where we go for all of Ashley's other medical issues. Now that its in, she'll have it until she's 4 or 5 when the docs do her midface advancement. It's pretty complicated stuff so I apologize if it doesn't make sense.

Anyway, just had to get this off my chest.

Annette,

I'm sorry you're feeling low, but if it is any consolation to you, the mid-face advancement surgery will be a lot safer with a tracheostomy. Â*There will be significant cutting and trauma in the face region and not having to worry about the airway issue will make the surgery easier on Ashley and on the doctors. Â*Hopefully the trach will come out soon afterwards, as we are hoping for as well for Jake.

Thinking of you guys!

PS: Sometime in the future, my family and I will take a trip up North--we have friends in Detroit--and we'll swing north and visit you guys so our kids can compare scars, ha ha.

Same here...unfortunately we really aren't going anywhere except for medical treatment for at least 2-3 years because my wife and I have exhausted almost all of our available leave balances from work and we have to build them back up.

All in due time......

Annette,

This is certainly a "different" kind of anniversary. I know things can be very difficult and trying at times. Remember though, you have done an amazing job and Ashley's progress is directly related to everything you have done for her.
