Hello all!! I'm sorry to read that so many have been getting sick here lately!! http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Most of you know that Gaithy's been using CPAP since she got her trach out around the 1st of August last year.

I wanted to post that Gaithy has been sleeping off of her CPAP for 12 nights now! This is a great improvement. Back in October she was able to sleep off of it for a little bit, but it turned out that that was only due to her being on an oral steroid for a few days because of a sickness. The steroid boosted her ability to sleep without stridor, etc.... Once that wore off, she started having lots of trouble again when asleep.

This time, it's all her! She does still have stridor in certain positions, but it's NOTHING like what it was before and her sats are GREAT!

We are still having the tonsils and adenoids removed - in 2 weeks (March 14th). We're ready for that. She needs some more room in there still! When she plays hard, you can hear a little stridorous sound, and then when alseep at times. Hopefully, she'll be better after the surgery.

I plan to keep the CPAP around til after the T&A and see how she does (there can be a lot of swelling associated with that), and if she's fine within 1-2 weeks after, then I may just send the CPAP back to Apria at that point!

AND - if the T&A goes well, Dr. Bower will probably do a stoma closure in May, that will be wonderful!

Wishing you all well!

Christy

Hi Christy

It's so nice to read an update on Gaithy and especially so when it's good news about one the "graduates". It lets us all see ahead a little rather than just in the moment. Continued best wishes for her T & A and keep coming back from time to time..............Evy

Christy,

Great news about Gaithy! Please let us know how the surgery goes...I'm curious to see what kind of improvements it brings as Hannah may have a T&A prior to the LTP.

Best of luck and here's to many more nights without CPAP!

Hello Christy!

Its great to hear that Christy is doing so well! Good Luck with her T&A... All of my kids had their tonsils and adenoids removed. Jessica was fine the day after, you wouldn't even had known she had surgery the next day. The first day they were all very tired and in pain, tynenol seemed to do the trick, none of them needed the tynenol with codine. The worst part was when Anthony sat up and threw up a ton of blood! IT was horrible, but it only happened once and he was much better after that... Now JoAnne, she threw up blood about 10 times, they were almost going to keep her over night, but I convinced them to let me take her home and after a good 24 hour nap, she was much better. Samantha threw up alot after surgery, but not blood. I guess they don't handle anesitia too well. But again, I convinced them to let me take her home and after a long nap, she was much better.

Our thoughts and prays will be with you! Keep us updated!

Christy

Thanks for the update!! I am very happy to hear Gaithy is doing so well. I know you have been through quite the trach journey and your decannulation was a very exciting (and scary) time. Its nice to breathe a small sigh of relief and know things really do get better with time. I wish you many upcoming wonderful months of no trachs, no O2, no vents, no pulsox monitors, no apnea monitors, no suction machines, need I say more??!!! You deserve the peace and quiet. Its time to just be "mommy" and to relish in each moment of success!! Again, best wishes and keep us updated!!
