6 months ago on the 23rd July, Angus was admitted to Yorkhill, so on Sunday the 23rd January, we decided to take him home for the afternoon to celebrate. Yup, we actually got him out of there for a while!

Initially I’d planned on just trying him out in the car and maybe driving round the block, but once we’d gone through all the palaver of packing his stuff and transferring it and him from the buggy we decided that we felt confident enough to take him home – after all, the traffic’s not bad on a Sunday, and it’s only a 20 minute journey then. He was quietly happy and interested throughout the day. He wasn’t alarmed by anything or over-excited. He and we just got on with it. It was far lower key than you’d have thought which is probably better because it meant we weren’t distracted from the task in hand.

He stayed at home for just over 3 hours, got fed there, had a nap on the sofa and a nappy change. He needed to be suctioned about 4 times in total, but apart from the noise of the Devilbiss unit it wasn’t horrendous.

He visited the ICU staff once we got back to the hospital and they were very pleased to see him. I think they were quite surprised too because they told me a few times when he was a patient there that people never come back to visit.

So that was our lovely Sunday – did anyone else have a Sunday as fab as that?!? I hope so.

Lots of love,

Kate

Kate,
What a blessed Sunday...miracles do happen. They arn't always fireworks in the sky, sometimes they are just soft little hands in yours and warm tears down your face...from joy!
Hugs,
Janet

Thanks everyone, for your messages. It was a sweet time and we're planning on doing it again this weekend, but for longer.

This may sound silly to some of you, but I want to do some skin to skin contact with him this time. I've had so little of the private, physical contact with him that I had with my daughter. It was a huge physical wrench to not be able to breastfeed him anymore. I don't think he will ever take to it again, but I pathetically keep trying. I'll give him a baby massage too.

Anyway, I'll tootle off now and get ready for work!!

Love,

Kate

Hi Kate, welcome to this board ( very late welcome I know but I haven't been online for ages!!). I am from London and my daughter goes to Great Ormond Street. I am so glad you managed to bring Angus home for a visit, I still remember the first time we brought Katie home for a visit after 8 months and it was the best feeling ever! I know what you mean about the suction unit I couldn't believe how loud it was and heavy!! Anyway, welcome again and I hope you have a great time with Angus this weekend.
Bea.
