Hi,
Â* I've been trying to follow Chief Justice Rhenquist (spelling ?) and his being trached. He reportedly wasn't returning to the Supreme Court because radiation left him with lots of secretions in his trach. (ha ha, it's the trach itself) Now I just read he is to swear in President Bush today. I can't wait to hear him. I hope they don't hide his trach.

I am looking forward to seeing him, too. By the way, my husband is there today. He had business in Virginia tomorrow, so he flew up early and ended up getting a ticket at a rep. office that he stopped by and asked. He just called to tell me that he actually got into the inauguration. Pretty cool, huh?
Way cool Sandra! It's my guess you won't be seeing the trach, but someone will have to let me know, since I'm at work and can't watch the inauguration http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Me and Mac just got done watching it too and from the channel we were watching and the camera view...President Bush's hand was raised and covering his neck...hmmmmm? But that raspy, airy voice was unmistakable. I am very proud of him...I've seen that our kids handle their trachs with grace under pressure. It's so much harder on adults because they have experienced life without the trach and have to relearn a few things...they tend to belly ache about everything depending on their attitude. Looks like the Judge is moving in a forward direction. He gets my standing approval! http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I was looking for the trach too. The trach was not hidden during any of his moving around on the podium or getting there. Like was stated above, Presiden't Bush's right hand was obscuring the view of the trach on TV during the actual swearing in, but it was a breathy voice. I was wondering if he has a speaking valve of some sort. The Justice is obviously very ill, and I don't think he even stayed to shake hands after saying Congratulations.

I could see the trach, too. On Fox news it was very clear. He spoke very well. You could hear him breathing, but he was very clear!

If that was my kid's trach, I would be freaking out - those ties are so loose! Get that man a chain! http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah, you could see the trach really well when he was being introduced and taking his seat. I agree with Shari, it was very loose - you could see part of the cannula. Oh well! He did do a very good job, though.

I heard about it, but I was going to check out the link to the story in Yahoo. Also, I think I'd like to see if I can e-mail Renquist and thank him since my son has a trach too. I told Donovan "see, you can do anything you want with a trach!." I think it's pretty cool. I am definitely not a Renquist fan, but I have to admire his work ethic. It's got to be rough. I heard a story on NPR about it too yesterday. They said he isn't sitting on the bench yet because he has to be suctioned. Interesting.
I agree with the "too loose" ties. I was wanting to push it in. I second Shari's comment! It did make me watch though cuz I wanted to see how he handled the trach. I think his other medical issues are even more serious than his trach but it was very interesting to see. We're probably the only ones that even noticed the actual trach!

Silly me...I just thought that maybe he had some kind of trach that stuck out father. Way too loose.

Oh, my gosh!! Is that thing even tied down. LOL Oh, boy, I am suprised that he could even talk. I didn't see it sticking out that much when he was swearing Presidnt Bush in.
