View Full Version : Brian is off the vent

Brian has not been on the ventilator for almost a week now. I can not believe it. He is on the o-ring 24/7. He was doing so well during the day that I called and asked about nights. The dr said to go for it. Brian has not desatted once. While on CPAP, he always desatted some at night. His oxygen has went from 1.75 L to .75 L since we got off. I guess his little body was tired of having any pressure. We only really started CPAP trials a few months back and now he is off the vent. If anyone had told me that we would make this kind of progress 2 months ago, I would have told them they were crazy. I really had prepared myself that Brian would be on the vent for at least another year.
Now if we can just make some gross motor progress. UUUGGGHHH!!!!

An o-ring is a small attachment that hooks to the trach and the oxygen tubing. It allows Brian to get his oxygen. We put an HME or a PMV on the end of it. So much easier than vent tubing!....Sandra

So great about the vent! Jacob's gross and fine motor skills didn't really take off until his medical needs were more stabalized - so don't give up quite yet. He seemed to be using his energy to survive and waited until he was more stable medically to start developing. Now, there's no stopping him!
