My suggestions came from the nutritionist at our Children's Hospital...my daughter still has a trach...

The nutritionist said trach kids like *strong* flavors. So, we use lots of garlic, salt, (easy on the pepper though if your little one has GERD). We've even put just a little Cajun flavoring in some stuff. She loves ranch mashed potatoes (and garlic ones too). She's pretty funny about textures though and I am awaiting a call from the speech therapist to see if there is anything we can work on to assist in getting her to eat "age appropriate" foods. Hannah refuses baby food (it IS pretty nasty). So, everything we eat I throw in the blender for her. Steak, pork chops, chicken, broccoli, carrots...I mix everything with either beef or chicken broth and blend it smooth. I put blended fruit in her baby cereal.

The nutritionist actually told me about a kid w/a trach at his bday party...wasn't all that thrilled about cake and ice cream and wandered off and found grandpa eating salsa and chips. Seems junior to a liking to the salsa and DRANK it out of the jar!

I'll share any info I find from the ST! Here's to hoping all these little ones eat better.
