Addy's fist anniversary of being decannulated is coming in a few days. Do you do anything t commemorate this event? I can't believe it has almost been a year since I suctioned my last trach.

WOW a whole year!!??? It goes fast. :)

Sadly, we don't. We have gone to the zoo or children's museum, but we really don't.

We do. Nothing too exciting, but I bake something special of her choosing and we usually go out to dinner.
She also brings treats into school and for show and tell she shows pictures of her with her trach. She gets a lot of questions regarding her scar so I feel it is good to show the kids in her class.

I can't believe it's going to be a year for you already! Wow!

Congratulations on the one year anniversary! We definitely celebrated last year for our one year milestone. We treated it like a birthday--he brought treats to school to share with his class, we went out to dinner as a family and he chose a special gift. We plan on doing the same thing this year--ours is in a couple of weeks!

Celebrate, have fun and make it special! When I think about the trach--changing it, suctioning it, etc., it makes me sick to my stomach. It served its purpose but that time is over and deserves to be celebrated:)

We are not decannulated but I sure would celebrate.....any excuse to have a party! Kids love that type of thing and it helps them remember all that they have to be thankful for!

If I celebrated all my procedures I would be busy every day of the year almost... actually that's not a bad idea :D

I am not decanned right now, don't think we ever celebrated my 1st decannulation either. I plan on doing something immediately after I get my stoma closed but that's a one-time thing.

We also treat it like a birthday  Special dinner of his choice, a small present or two, get togethers with family and lots of talk about not having the trach anymore but what a great thing it was because it helped him grow big and strong.

That's awesome! Congratulations!!

I know it's no big secret, but I look for reasons to celebrate and make a big to-do about things. :) So we plan to, yes. But I think it's whatever you want. :)

We are going to be on vacation in NJ and I am hosting a baby shower that day, so I am not sure what I can do.
