I don't know how old your child is but I have a 2 year old with VCParalysis who spends his awake hours plugged or with Passey-Muir. I started him with the Passey when he was 5 weeks old but it wasn't easy. I first began by holding him and placing a sterile glove on. I would them slowly cover his trach with my finger taking five or ten minutes to completely cover it-this allowed him time to get used to moving air through his upper airway. When he could tolerate that, I placed the passey on only ten minutes per hour and increased by ten minutes each our every few days. It was a several week process but was successful. If your baby is older, I expect it will be more difficult. Good luck! http://www.twinEnterprises.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Quote[/b] ]Eli doesn't tolerate pluggings and passymuir's very well.

Plugs are caps that cover the tube blocking it. Passymuir is a speaking valve. I would guess this person was trying these two things as part of the decannulation process.

It's OK, just not every day that we see a post resurrected from 2002. http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
What are you going through now? Maybe we can make some suggestions.
