Has anyone ever had this?

Isabella is able to cough stuff up but it seems starting this afternoon that it wants to stay around the trach and not be suctioned. Her lungs are clear. It's clear but really thick. Luckily we go to her pulmo tommorrow but I was just wondering what it might be and any remedies that worked.

Sounds as if she needs more moisture... Do you use HME or mist?

Yes it does sound like she needs a little more moisture. If you don't have a cool mist machine, or if you think it is just a little too thick at that time, I use the nebulizer but with 2 bullets of saline instead of albuterol. Works so great if my son is really thick and I am having a hard time with his secreations at all. During the winter, he gets that every morning no matter what due to the heat drying him out.

I agree with the others it sounds like she needs more moisture. I do saline nebs or use extra saline bullets when suctioning to loosen things up some. Also increasing fluid intake will help thin secreations out (as long as she isnt restricted on intake)

What kind of trach does she have? Is her stoma stretched? I have a stretched stoma and when I tried the Bivona TTS all my secretions were coming out around my trach and out the stoma. I have to add a stoma seal to a regular Bivona to encourage the secretions to go into the trach.

Another possibility is allergies.
