After two months of being at home and enjoying every minute of it, Hannah was readmitted on Sunday night. We did everything we could to keep her at home. She was struggling so much at times--4L of O2 and her heart rate would top out at over 200!!!
Anyway, she has a touch of pneumonia and her respiratory culture was positive for something. We've had some pretty good nurses so far, but they do not suction her nearly enough. They are going to let me try to feed her today. I convinced to NOT put down an NG tube. Hannah has worked soooo hard to be rid of that thing. She was on Bi-pap Monday and switched to CPAP yesterday. They are going to try her off CPAP today to see what happens. Hopefully we can bring her home with just the O2 she went in on.
Anyway, since she already has issues with BPD, they are in no hurry to send her home. I'm guessing a minimum of 2 weeks. http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Anyway, if you could just say a little prayer for quick recovery and avoiding the feeding tube, I would be forever grateful.
I hope all your little ones stay healthy!

Jennie - I'm so sorry that Hannah is sick and in the PICU. Â*I hope she doesn't have to stay two weeks. Â*I'm sending prayers and {{Hugs}} your way for a speedy recovery and a not too stressful hospital stay. Â*It's so hard once we get our kids home to go back in the hospital with them. Hang in there and I hope Hannah comes home soon.

Jennie,
I too am so sorry about this situation for you all. It's harder once your baby has been home awhile...you really MISS her being in her own home, etc.... Hopefully she will be home quickly, but it does sound like she needed the visit. It's so easy for preemies/BPD babies to get out of hand quickly. They just can't handle very much when it comes to lung infections, etc... Anyway, I'm just rambling, I know you know all of that....good luck with everything, including keeping that NG tube at bay.

Hope Hannah gets better soon and hope that she gets good care at this hospital.
Isn't it maddening to watch someone else suction your child? Only about 1/3 to 1/4 of all the nurses/RT's do it properly--most are too timid and it doesn't do your kid any good.

Thanks to all for your prayers and words of encouragement!
Hannah is doing much better and is now back to O2 only. They are supposed to move her from the PICU today back to a regular floor. The docs also (thankfully!!) listened to me and did NOT put an NG tube down. She resumed her PO feeds yesterday and is handling them very well. So well, they discontinued her IV fluids.
There is a chance she could be home as early as MONDAY!!! Please pray for a Monday discharge!
Again, thanks to all for your kinds words!
Jennie
