My son Gabriel is scheduled for CTR (Cricotracheal Resection) surgery this thursday to repair his subglottic stenosis and hopefully remove his trach. The procedure will be performed in CLeveland at Rainbow Babies & Children. He has gone under several times but I don;t know why I fel so nervous :( He will be in the nicu for 10 days and sedated for 5 of those days. If any of you have any advice or have been through this procedure before I would love to hear how it turned out...

Good luck! Parker had an LTP which is obviously a different surgery but if you want to see his blog to read about the ups and downs of the sedation part of the recovery, please do! We had a lot of downs but in the end we brought home a baby without a trach and he hasn't looked back since.

Rosi's been under a lot too. We have a different type of surgery to face in the process of them taking out the trach. They are removing granulation tissue and closing the stoma at the same time. I think what makes me most nervous is that she'll be on the vent with an ET tube again. That's actually what caused her to need the trach in the first place so I can't help thinking something will go wrong. I also don't like the idea of her being sedated for a few days. All the surgeries (except the trachiostomy itself) were minor really. This one seems so big since she'll have to be in ICU for about 7 days.

hi linette.
just want to say that i hope it goes well. our docs deliberated for ages between CTR and LTR. they warned us that CTR is much more the difficult op to go through. my sincere advice is to prepare for that, but remember how great the outcome should be. :)
