View Full Version : Finally trach free!

Dominic went into hospital last weekend for a trial decann, and to my amazement it worked. He managed the downsizing and capping fine, didn't need any suctioning while capped or anything. So, on Tuesday his tracheostomy tube was removed and so far so good. What has amazed me more than anything is how unbothered he is by it all. I am therefore trying to remain calm and cool like he is too! About a minute after it was removed on the ward he was asking to go to the play room.
We got home yesterday, phew, being in hospital with a well child is hard work. Thank goodness for play workers and play rooms!

(and after spending a week inpatient for diagnostic testing....I fully agree.... there is nothing harder than trying to entertain a well child in a hospital room)

Thanks everyone. So far the biggest changes I have noticed are this:
1) Dominic now talks in his sleep!
2) He has more energy - and this a child who wasn't exactly lacking in energy before either.
