Prilosec?

CAn anyone tell me if your kids are taking Prilosec for reflux? We saw a ped GI who implied that zantac and reglan are the only meds available for treating reflux in a 212 month old. Im just wondering, as the fundo isnt stopping the reflux from happening anymore. Thanks, Deb

Im going to ask about it! SHe has vomited 3 times today (so that's at half of her feedings) and it looks so painful. Is there an alternative to liquid? I could crush pills up to go thru g tube. But at this point I'd "pawn the farm "to get her reflux to stop. I think it's a part of why she's not gaining any faster (still 15 lbs) or taking any solids. Of course what do I know, Im "just a mom, not a doctor." Thanks for the input all. Deb

Did the dr recommend the gaviscon? Ours just said to use the baby strength simithecone (may be misspelled). Its a tiny does because of her weight (15 lbs) and I dont see that it's helped a bit. Ive been more willing to explore over the counter remedies since we used acidopholous to help her during the 20 day bout of unexplained diarreah last Feb. I dont think they understand sometimes the amounts of acid that these little bodies can produce. And she's been on the same dose of Zantac for a year (1 cc 2x a day). The reglan is also maxed out at 2 cc 3 x a day...they say a higher dose at her current weight will cause muscle spasms that mimic seizures! Deb

i also wanted to add that Parker was on Prilosec for quite a few months (we tried pills and had it made into a suspension) and his reflux got worse. I talked with his doc's and they said that sometimes this can happen with Prilosec so they changed us to Prevacid, I have it made into a suspension and it works wonderfully. We were also giving it twice a day and now give it all together once a day and this works better for him.

I can't believe that doctor implied that. I mean it sounds like he doesn't know what he is doing. My daughter Morgan had severe reflux since the day she was born. She had a TEF repair that caused/contributed to it. She was on Zantac and Relgan to only be taken of the Zantac because it didn't do it's job. She has been on Prilosec for about a year now and she is only 19 months old (close June 5th) anyway, it has worked great for her and she is now off reglan and only taking the Prilosec once a day. She was on the liquid form because the pill form you have to break open and the little pellets would make her gag but, know that she is older they have switched her back over to the pill.
