Hi

I was wondering how many people on this board have turned the LMV alarm off. We did just recently as I was getting little sleep at night because Jimmy would relax so much and cause a huge leak. He would never awake to the alarms and his sats remained at 99-100 regardless of what the min volume was. When on a rate he gets a tidal volume of 200, good nights were if I could keep the return vol at 40-50. I don't know why it took me so long to turn that alarm off.
Since Jimmy's spine surgery in October we have been weening him off his rate during the day so that he is only on pressure support. We have finally accomplished this but this but was wondering if we should turn the LMV alarm on while he is on just pressure support.

Thanks for your help and suggestions

We actually turned off Jacob's LMV alarm while he was still on pressure support. It drove us nuts for about a week, and finally I put in a call to the RT at our DME company and she said it was ok to turn it off because he was only on CPAP. But now, Jacob is getting a rate at night and it is still off. When he was in the hospital, he was put on one of their vents and of course, they wouldn't turn it off, so it would alarm almost the entire time he was sleeping. Jacob's tidal volume is set at 90 and his readings will sometimes be 20-30 during sleep.

Gaithy was in Pressure/SIMV mode, getting pressure support and pressure control. She got to where her alarm was constantly going off when she was alseep. So, I did turn it off. I knew she was getting ventilated well...and the alarm was SUCH a PAIN!!!!

Anne - I just checked Jack's vent and I don't think the LMV has ever been on. I certainly have never turned it off and it is off now, so our DME's RT must have set it up with it off. Jack is on pressure control now instead of volume.
