Alli was decanulated on Monday afternoon as planned. She has done really well, except that she has episodes of vomiting up mucus (sp) which then cause her to have laboured breathing for a while. The dr said that this is "normal" as her cilia in the airway above where the trach was arent used to moving the mucus up any higher so it can be comfortably coughed up. She maintained sats during the entire stay! Heartrate was a bit elevated, but again dr assures us that is ok and will get back to normal as she adjusts to a whole new way to breathe. she is also a bit loud breathing but he said this was because she isnt relaxing her vocal cords yet. It is fantastic to see her withoput the trach in place-she is crawling all over the place, getting used to being home again after the misery of the hospital. Ill keep you posted! Deb
