Well the hole is just not going to close - it has been 4 months since decannulation and it may have closed slightly. The ENT surgeon took one look at it and said lets get it done before winter.

The surgeon was trained by Dr Cotton and he does the closure surgery "The Cinnci" way. He will cut down the hole and stitch the trachea and the skin hole leaving a small hole with a drain. It should close on its own in a few weeks. The trachea cartlidge should close first followed by the skin.

Its only a 45 min procedure and she will have 1 night in ICU and hopefully 1 night on the ward - depending on her lungs after the anaesthetic.

She is going to get a dose of RSV vaccination next week just in case.

Has anyone had this surgery? Just wondering, will she be up and about the same day?? I shouldnt think they would need to keep her sedated?

Fingers crossed this will be the end.
