What a day - so stressful!! Jacob did fantastic yesterday - he is my hero!:D I am in awe of everything he has been through and how he continues to persevere - wow. The surgeon said all went well, no complications at all. He had to have 2 grafts. He is heavily sedated right now and will be for the next 2 to 3 days. So far, he is a "little wiggly", but not causing any problems. He is on morphine and mezodiazepam for now. They are hoping to avoid using the paralytic muscle relaxers if they can, but that will be the next step if he gets too active.
DH and I weren't prepared for the size of the incision. He said as it is in the crease of his neck, it won't be visible once he heals. It's the least of our worries right now, it was just surprising. So, the stent will stay in for 2 months, then another 2 months and he will bronch him, with plans to decan, if all looks well. He said his paralyzed left vocal cord should not be an issue, at this stage, as Jacob is older and a good weight. Pray for quick healing.
Thanks so much for everyone's support and prayers. You have really helped to prepare us and know what we would be in for. This is a HUGE hurdle behind us and we are so grateful that everything went well. We are also very happy with our decision to have the surgery done by our local ENT. He has a very calm, confident personality and excellent bedside manner. We also have the bonus of everyone knowing us here and they just adore Jacob. So, all in all, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.
