I've seen recent posts about medicaid and nursing hours and it's really started to make me think. Parker only has CAp-C(medicaid) for his nursing. OUr nursing with our insurance was cut about a year ago.

Parker only has a trach no other tubes, he does minimally aspirate...but stops when using the PMV. (the valve seems to control this). They cut us to 20 hours a week. We've had 40 or more until the end of April. Does this sound right? I was told the only way for him to have "hospital level" care was if he had a failure to thrive along with the trach or another tube (feeding, etc.)and a trach?

Since our hours were cut....he's had the scarry er visit. Pulling his trach out at night when the nurse should have been there. Now he's got a virus or possible oncoming of a trach infection and we're probably gonna have to start med's soon. Suctioning him from this illness a lot. (we went through 10 t vent's in 24 hours, if that tells ya anything about his recent secretions!!! Yuk!&#33http://www.twinEnterprises.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

What do you think?

Thanks

I have heard that if it's "only a trach", you have no other kids, AND you don't work outside the home, that you get very little nursing. If you have other kids and/or work outside the home I've heard the standard is 16 hrs/7 days a week. That's what I'd like documentation on as I asked in my Medicaid post. Anyone got anything like that? Am I way off base? Please set me straight if I am. Sue
