Michael's mom

Hi, Michael is my son, he's a year old and has tracheomalacia and is hypotonic, no other diagnosis (yet). He was trached at 1 month and kept on oxygen until about 6 months. We ended up having to really push the weaning, as the pulm and nurses seemed content to keep him on max pressures and oxygen. WE want him to be off this thing eventually, so we had to push the weaning. If he's only been on O2 for a little while, that's normal. What is he on? If he's on a 1/2 liter, that's not bad. 1 liter...well, I would work on getting him weaned slowly. Anyway, to give you hope, he was on oxygen until about 6 months, then at 9 months he was beginning to be weaned from the machine. By 11 months he was off the vent all day long, and now at 12 months they are beginning night weaning, so don't lose hope. Sue
