Hello, my name is Bob and this is my first post.
Four years ago, I had one of my vocal cords removed. They found a small cancerous tumor in my right vocal cord and removed it. Everything went fine, and all my problems have been cured, except one.
I have a metal Jackson trach. I have had it for four years. I am thinking of getting rid of it, and going strapless with a Barton-Mayo type trach. I am concerned about cleaning the Barton-Mayo trach. With my Jackson, I can take the whole thing off my nech and keep it clean. Can this be done with the Barton-Mayo?
The other question I have, is that I just came back from a cruise. I met a person who noticed my trach and asked how long I had it. I told him, and he said that he had one 25 years ago, but doesn't have one now. He has a hole in his neck that is sewed open. He is able to talk without placing his finger over the hole. He wears a turtle over the hole so nobody know he has it. Then I thought, maybe this is the best way to go.
The reason for my trach is because of the operation and the scar tissue that grew and left me with a small amount of breating area. They say the radiation my have helped in this also. So I wear a trach.
If anyone knows about the Barton-Mayo trach, and also the hole would you let me know about it, and how you get along with it.
Thank you for any information you can give to me.
