Jimmy's had the same Kangaroo feeding pump ever since he got his g-tube 9 years ago. The internal battery stopped holding a charge a few years ago but other than that it worked great. We have had just one pump that would stay at home and when he went to school the nurses would just hang the bag and let it run by gravity. Depending what's going on at home we either run it on the pump or by gravity. Doesn't bother Jimmy whether he get's fed in 15 min versus 1 1/2 hours.

Today... our enteral feeding supplier called to say that they couldn't get the Kangaroo bags anymore and that we would need to switch to a new pump. Unfortunately none of the pumps that they carry currently offer the possibility of running the feeding by pump or gravity from the same bag. On the fastest setting on the new pump it will still take at least 45 min. for each meal.

I was wondering what type of pumps other people use and if the bags are as versitle as the Kangaroo bags.

Thanks

Niff

We use the EntraLite Infinity (http://www.zevex.com/enteral/pumps/infinity/) by Zevex. It's extra small (smaller than the Joey) and easy to use. The battery holds up well, too. We actually used ours for 3 or 4 days without charging it.

i am not sure why they told u that they cant get the bags, we have the kangaroo as well as the eteralite . we have no problems getting the bags for both. they could just be telling you that because the reimbersement isnt enough for them, i know u may not want to do this but i would check another company if u need too. hope this helps..what company do u use? check into a company called home choice partners, let me know if u cant find the number for your area.

we too have the zervex infinity... love it. Have had it 2 1/2 yrs and really no complaints (just make sure if they don't give you a new one that it wasn't on the recall list - turns out our old DME got bought out and we were thier ONLY customer that didn't have a recalled infinity!). It goes every where and is super light. they have 500ml and 1200ml bags - you can set it for interval feeds (ie every 4 hrs), plus other options.

The Infinity arrived last evening. They said I would have to pay out of pocket for gravity bags to take to school as insurance only pays for 30 bags a month. I plan on calling them back today to see if they carry any other pumps that can switch between gravity and pump run on the same bag and if not I will find a new provider. I know Kanagaroo still makes pumps and thus the bags. I guess I'm set in my ways, but we've been doing this for almost 10 yrs. and this is what works for us.

Thanks for all the comments

We use the EntraLite Infinity (http://www.zevex.com/enteral/pumps/infinity/) by Zevex.

Same here. My only complaint with this pump is that it doesn't alarm if the tubing becomes disconnected. I can't tell you how many times we've "fed the bed" because the med port has opened, or the tubing came out!

We have a flocare infinity pump (which is the same as the Zevex enteralite, just the uk version). flocare also provide us with bags that we use for gravity feeds during the day, Sam only has feeds on the pump overnight. We simply hook the bags up and the feed just drips through. I tried to post a link, but it is a massive pdf file so couldn't do it.

We're still using the kanagroo pet pump. I hope the bags aren't a problem for us soon!

We have an "old school" kangaroo pump....but, when we were at the hospital overnite with Anderson's tonsils....they used a NEW kangaroo! It was great....primed itself and everything! It was so small too! I am thinking of asking our supply company for one, but not sure how much longer we are really going to use a pump since Anderson is eating like crazy! I just have to figure out if she is getting calories up for the day time!

I talked today with the company and they said that Kangaroo was not going to make that feeding bags that we had been using and that was the hold up. She said that if we wanted to go with the new Kangaroo ePump then they would get that for us. I just checked the specs. on that pump online and while we wouldn't be able to run gravity as we had before we could program the pump to run at a higher rate of speed and thus mimic gravity feed on the pump.

Thanks for all your help

We had the self priming Kangaroo Joey pump too. It was real easy!

I'm not sure if it is the same thing, but I have roughly a case of some kind of Kangaroo pump bags -- REF 8884702005.

I'll send 'em to you if you want.

I have lots of extra zevex enteral-lite infinity feed bags if anyone needs them. They are 500's.
