ok we are home, but wow, totally overwhelming. there are boxes everywhere, I am so tired, thankfully we have a nurse tonight, with his meds , the SUPER loud humidifier (WHY? anyone have a quiet one???) we are burnt already and we just began... i want to cry , i think i am crying , oh lordy, oh and get this we have a huge snowstorm today, we shoveld our spot and put out a barrel to save it (which we NEVER do u are allowed to do it 24 hrs after a storm) so we get home from hospital and someone parked there! thanks jerk, we just get out of the hosp after 3 mos, and have all this medical stuff to carry too! i am leaving a note on the jerks car!
thanks for listening
It is overwhelming at first. It gets easier with time. Take advantage of the nurse and try to get some sleep and rest, rest, rest!!

I remember quite well how overwhelming the first days are at home and yes the compressor is loud. You get used to it after a while and sometimes you don't even realize it is there. We didn't get any nursing, so it was rough.

((HUGS)) It is normal to be overwhelmed & even to cry. And yes that compressor is LOUD, you do get used to it. Sorry about the snow & losing your spot, that stinks!
The first night is very overwhelming- take it easy, enjoy your time with your son-- take your time to unpack--"the boxes everywhere" as you soon learn come monthly, you will get used to all of the deliveries, and sorting and putting away. As for the compressor, you will get very used to the noise (to the point that you will find it hard to fall asleep without it- I know we did when Joseph no longer needed his)

We are so glad you are home! While the transition can be overwhelming at first, it does get easier with time. Try to get some rest while you have a nurse there. Hang in there mom, and know it's okay to cry!

I know its totally overwhelming, but as everyone has already said, you get used to it. You work out your routines and figure out what works and what doesn't. Take advantage of that nurse!!! I cried when I first heard how loud the humidifier was, so I totally sympathize. I was burnt out and it was the first day home from the hospital, they brought the machine in and turned it on and I started bawling:blush: but, now I'm totally used to it and probably couldn't sleep without it ;) Good luck!

Welcome home. This too shall pass. We lived in the inner harbor in Baltimore years ago. I remember "saving" those parking places. I suspect that you can work with the city to have a handicapped sign placed in front of your home and get a place reserved. Most states will let trachy kids have a placard in their car, so I don't see why you couldn't arrange for this in your parking situation at your home.

I just went to Jasper's blog. He is adorable. I love how big those baby legs are on him. I'm always moved to see how tiny these little ones are. Their trachs seem soooo soooo big comparatively. Hugs!

The first night can be hard, heck the first week can be. But things do get better. Pretty soon you won't even notice the humidifer is on, and things will settle down. Promise.
I would be mad about my parking spot too! What a "wonderful" way to start the first night home. I hope you left a note!

Welcome home! Is Jasper on oxygen? If not, you might be able to make the humidifier less noisy by adjusting the "O2" setting on the water bottle. I've found that when I move mine to the highest "O2" setting, that the noise level becomes considerably better. You won't be changing anything since it's only room air, but it might help you keep your sanity.

Welcome home! It gets easier. I know it doesn't seem like that's possible, but it does. Take advantage of the nursing and get as much rest as you can. Organization will come. And the compressor --- yeah. Ours was super loud but we ended up getting so used to it she could barely sleep if it wasn't on!
Best of luck!

It is tough at first, I struggled to find places to store all those supplies and I still hate it when the monthly order arrives. But it does get better, believe me. we didn't have the humidifier, but we did have an oxygen concentrator - now sam doesn't need the oxygen anymore the house is really quiet. Take time sorting out the supplies and get some rest while the nurse is there:hug:

You survived the first night and that is good. Take time to ignore the med stuff and enjoy your baby then slowly work your way through the jungle of stuff to organize. I feel for you about the parking issue but some people are thoughtless and rude. Karen
