I can hardly wait to get back on the Boards and read what has happened to everyone. I see such interesting posts, but I just can't right now...
We are still struggling with detox, but not the way you might think. The PICU was full to capacity, so we got pushed to the respiratory floor about 36 hours sooner then ideal. As a result, we lost the ability to wean the methadone and atavan at a rapid pace. They don't do WAT scores on the floor, and as a result, Alex has been sleeping round the clock since Tuesday. He has even skipped doses of the meth (2x) with no consequences. We FINALLY seem to have gotten through to the doctors that this is not right, nor is it necessary, but it has been a long, frustrating struggle. Sadly, I think he did all his detox the hard way in the PICU, with 36 hours of terrible shakes.
The follow up-follow up bronch is today. If all is well, the plan is to discharge us tonight. (Snow or no snow.)
I have lots of questions, lots of pics, and some funny videos to share. I miss you guys and love you all.
Oh ... and I found out that as of last summer, I seem to OWN all of Alex's equipment. Huh. That is both an opportunity and a bit of a disappointment. No one will come to take it away! But still, we will see to it that it goes to good use.

PS -- I don't think any of this has sunk in yet. I suspect when we get home and put the equipment away, and stop fighting for Alex's detox regime, we will begin to realize what has happened. Then, I think, the tears of joy will come. So far ... not so much. I am really surprised at myself.

So so SO happy for you. Can't wait for pics and a detailed post. And as for the "let down" ----- I told you you would suprise yourself. It's when you have the freedom on the outside (no nurse, no equipment and the ability to put your child to bed without a bunch of tubes and wires) THAT'S when things really seem to turn around!!!

It's so good to hear from you Karin! I don't know how you are able to put together a post let alone have time to absorb all the changes! Praying for an uneventful transition home SOON! (and with NO snow!)

WOW! This is all so amazing! I'm sure it will take some getting used to, but once it sinks in and you find your new lifestyle, you'll look back on all of this and ask yourselves, "How did we ever get through it all?!?" The stories you will be able to tell everyone as Alex get older! AMAZING!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! CONGRATULATIONS ALL OF YOU!!!

Don't worry I have shed the tears for you Karin. I think Angela is right, when you can kiss all that stuff goodbye and go to the beach with sand, and go swimming in the pool this summer it will hit you. :)

WOONDERING WHERE YOU ARE NOW..? Cant wait for photos and your expression of how it feels. I know the most awesome thing for us the first time was rocking her to sleep and taking her into bed and not having to make a second trip for the suction machine etc! Keep us posted! Deb
