View Full Version : Suddenly hates pmv
Seamus used to have no problem wearing his PMV - he used to ask for it first thing in the morning. At the hospital, he got used to not wearing it, and now that he is home again, he balks at wearing it. I tell him he absolutely has to wear it at school and if we go out. He fusses, but he will put it on, but then takes it right off again when we get home. He also refuses to wear an HME.
He says it makes him cough and it is harder to breathe. Is this another one of his control issues? Or does it really increase resistance to breathing? Does he just need to get used to it again?
Thanks - Liz

maybe he has some granulation in his airway, my son always had a hard time with the pmv, after he had a huge granuloma removed last summer he did better with it, but it still dries my son out way to much, so we have limit the time, our ent said you can tell by thier breathing, change in tolerace of the passy or volume of thier voice, as an indication of granulation. if he is complaining about it being harder to breathe, i'd want to make sure he doesn't have a granuloma.

If he is struggling to breathe, then I would definitely get some advice from the doctor, especially as he has always tolerated it in the past. I hope it isn't a granuloma http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tears.gif

It's entirely possible that there is more pressure if he's telling you that. I would definitely call his ENT or Pulmo Dr and see what they have to say. http://www.tracheostomy.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/luck.gif
